Go to bon.tv to watch the full episode This comment relates to the case of Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng. His case has been widely reported abroad, though less so in the Chinese press. The blind self-taught lawyer had been held under de facto house arrest for a year and a half since he was released from a 4-year prison sentence. He fell foul of authorities in his home town of Linyi by exposing illegal forced abortions and sterilizations there. Chen escaped from his house last week and spent six days in the US embassy in Beijing before leaving for hospital treatment under controversial circumstances. The US says he wanted to stay in China -- Chen now says he fears for his own safety and that of his family. China's foreign Ministry meanwhile said letting Chen into the US embassy was interference in China's internal affairs, and completely unacceptable. It also insisted China was a country under the rule of law, and every citizen's legitimate rights and interests were protec! ted by the Constitution and laws. This poster's comment would suggest he takes some issue with that.
